PORTLAND – The 2005 District Convention of Jehovah’s Witnesses will be held May 27 and 29 and June 3 and 5 at the Cumberland County Civic Center. People will attend from nearby communities such as Auburn and Augusta to as far away as Newburyport, Mass.
The program will have something for everyone, Witnesses and non-Witnesses. The keynote address will be on “Follow the Model in Your Obedience to God.” Practical advice for families will also be presented.
The program is one of a national series of more than 200 conventions presented by Jehovah’s Witnesses throughout the United States. All seats are free and no collections will be taken. All are welcome. For more information, contact Jeff King at 1-800-578-3832.
Re-enactment
DRESDEN – The Lincoln County Historical Association annual trek to the cemetery on the grounds of the Pownalborough Courthouse will take place at 11 a.m. Memorial Day, Monday, May 30.
A group of pre-Revolutionary War re-enactors will march along the road to the stone-wall enclosed burying ground. The Rev. Bruce Alexander will read the names of the veterans of the Revolutionary War, War of 1812 and Civil War, while children place flowers at each grave.
The 1761 courthouse will be open for a guided tour following the service at the flagpole.

Millett reunion
NORWAY – The Millett family reunion will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, June 19, at Paul Millett’s (former Verna Millett’s farm), 1230 Crockett Ridge Rd. Bring a chair and picnic lunch. Corps meeting
PORTLAND – A Peace Corps general information meeting and panel of returned volunteers will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, June 16, in the Portland Public Library, 5 Monument Square.
