LEWISTON – A Lewiston man was arrested Saturday after police say he struck a child on a bike and initially left the scene.
Matthew Hendicks, 43, of Lewiston, allegedly struck the child with his vehicle on the corner of Webster and Pine streets shortly after noon. When Hendicks’ passenger got out to check on the child, Hendicks drove off, police said.
Police said he left to meet a family member.
The child was taken to Central Maine Medical Center with injuries that were not life-threatening. Hendricks soon returned but was charged with leaving the scene of the accident.
He was also charged with operating without a license. He was arrested and taken to the Androscoggin County Jail.
