MERRIMACK, N.H. (AP) – Merrimack High School senior Nicole Milisci was driving to work last Friday when a luxury sedan rolled out in front of her car from a nearby house.
Milisci said she immediately slammed on the brakes and the horn, but to no avail. She said she was trying to get her wits together after the accident when she saw the other driver, 2-year-old Eric Wescott of Nashua, crying and getting out of the car.
Minutes before, the toddler, who only suffered facial abrasions in the crash, had crawled into the unregistered car that was parked in a yard at his mother’s boyfriend’s house. The child had somehow managed to put the vehicle’s automatic transmission into neutral.
The car, with Wescott in the driver’s seat, then rolled out into the street where it narrowly missed being hit by one car before being hit by Milisci’s car, causing extensive damage to both vehicles.
The youngster was taken to St. Joseph Hospital, where he was treated and later released.
Officials are investigating where the boy’s mother was when her son got into the car.
