AUBURN – Ashley Swett, a business administration and management student at Central Maine Community College, was recognized as the college’s Student of the Year at a ceremony in Augusta.

She was introduced by Dean of Students Charles Collins, who cited her leadership and contributions to the college community: “In addition to her work in the classroom, Ashley served as a student executive assistant and a resident assistant.

But of all the activities Ashley has participated in, most know her best as the positive and hardworking captain and leader of the college’s women’s basketball team.

“Ashley has excelled in leading the team and scored her 1,000th point earlier this year. She has been selected to the United States Small College Athletic Associations All-American team for all three years that she has been at (the college).”

Swett has also been a counselor in the college summer camp program. Serving more than 500 campers from age 9 to 12, she is one of the summer camp’s most popular counselors, according to Collins, who quoted Camp Director Dave Gonyea as saying, “I have not had a more well-rounded and positive counselor then Ashley Swett. She serves as the model counselor I want all my counselors to aspire to.”

Swett will continue her education at the University of Southern Maine this fall and will earn her bachelor’s degree by completing two semesters at USM/L-A. After completing her bachelor degree, she plans to work with young people, using her athletic skills and belief that she can affect their lives in positive ways.
