MADISON – Tory Lee Smith, 29, died unexpectedly Saturday, June 4, at her home in Madison.

She was born Sept. 6, 1975, in Skowhegan, the daughter of Peter A. Smith and Cindy L. Small. She was a 1994 graduate of Jay High School.

She was employed for four years for the state of Maine Department of Health and Human Service as a clerk typist and receptionist in the Bureau of Family Independence and Public Health and Nursing. She also worked for the past year as a cashier at Hannaford Supermarket in Skowhegan.

She was a very family-oriented person and spent a lot of time with her grandmothers. A highlight of her life was spending time with her nephew, Evan. She also enjoyed working around her home on Kincade Road and talking with others about how wonderful her sisters were. There was always time in her life for her friends.

She is survived by her father, Peter A. Smith, of Madison; her mother, Cindy L. Small of Texas; sisters, Shawna Austin of Madison and Tiffany Smith in the U.S. Navy, Bethesda, Md.; paternal grandmother, Barbara Smith of Madison; maternal grandmother, Ruth Small of Skowhegan; maternal grandfather, Wayne “Ed” Small of Louisiana; maternal great-grandmother, Phyllis Small of Madison; a nephew, Evan Austin; and many cousins and friends.
