TURNER – Julia L. Burgess, 81, of Fortin Drive in Turner, died unexpectedly early Monday morning, June 6, at her home.

Beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she was born in New Cumberland, W.Va., March 14, 1924, a daughter of Thomas and Rose (Williamson) Harney. She grew up in Harrison, but spent most of her adult life residing in the Norway/South Paris area.

She was married to Leon Burgess, and he passed away in 1978.

She worked many years in the shoe manufacturing industry in Norway and South Paris as she and her husband raised their family.

Among her favorite enjoyments were spending time with her family, reading, and the company of her two “grand-dogs” Opie and Sheeba.

She leaves a daughter, Sharon Swanson and her husband, Bo, of Turner; a son, Leon Burgess Jr., and his companion, Mary Emmons, of Bryant Pond; four grandchildren, Donna Bissonnette and husband, Ron, Leon “Rusty” Kimball and companion, Lorraine Dubois, Michele Van Arsdale and Robbie Austin; five great-grandchildren, Joseph and Renee Bissonnette, Melissa Kimball, and Cora Lee and Susan Van Arsdale; and two sisters, Ellen Burnell of Naples and Emma York of Bridgton.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Judy Austin in September 1995; and two brothers, Joseph and Owen Harney. She will be missed more than words can say.
