FALL RIVER, Mass. (AP) – Police shot and killed a Fall River man outside his home after he allegedly refused to drop a sword he was waving.
Officers tried to subdue Noel Jimines, 33, on Monday evening by firing four beanbag rounds from a shotgun, but he continued to advance toward them, police said.
That’s when officers opened fire, hitting the man several times, according to police.
He was taken to Charlton Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Prosecutors and state police were investigating whether the deadly shooting was justified, according to a spokesman for Bristol County District Attorney Paul Walsh Jr.
An autopsy was scheduled for Wednesday.
