BETHEL – Terry Collins threw a one-hitter and got just enough support at the plate as Telstar came away with a 2-0 victory over Old Orchard Beach in Western Class C Quarterfinal baseball matchup Thursday. Collins struck out 17 batters in seven innings of work, including 10 of the last 13 he faced.

August Reiss broke things open for the Rebels (11-4) with an RBI home run in the sixth inning, while Josh Longway tallied two hits on the day.

Brian Robillard led Old Orchard (11-5) with a double.

Jay 6, Winthrop 4

WINTHROP – Steve Nelson scattered six hits and received strong support at the plate as Jay edged Winthrop 6-4 in more Western Class C baseball playoff action Thursday. Nelson also led the Tigers (11-7) with three hits and one RBI, while Ryan Bourassa and Jamison Turner tallied two hits apiece.

Cory Gillespie, Jason Allen and Chip Burnham split time on the mound for the Ramblers (10-6), with Nelson credited with the loss. Jay stepped out to a 4-0 lead in the first and never trailed.
