ENGLEWOOD, Colo. – Roger W. Coombs, 83, of Temple, passed away Monday, Feb. 7, in Englewood, Colo.

He was born April 27, 1921, in East Vassalboro, the youngest of three sons of Everett and Mary Coombs. He was a 1939 graduate of Winslow High School and attended one year at Thomas Business College.

In 1942, he joined the U.S. Army, where he served in a medical unit in Europe, North Africa and the Pacific. After World War II, he worked in a woolen mill in Vassalboro.

In 1948, he married Doris Mosher in Temple.

In 1952, he purchased the former Chester Greenwood building on Front Street, Farmington, and opened the Farmington Laundry and Dry Cleaners business, which he ran until 1992.

He belonged to the Rotary Club, the Maine Masonic Lodge 20 AF & AM in China, and served on the Franklin Memorial Hospital board in the 1970s. After his retirement in 1992, he was a member of the Franklin Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

In November 2004, he and his wife moved to Denver to be close to their son.

He is survived by his wife, Doris; a son, Alan Coombs and his wife, Gail, and his granddaughter, Elizabeth Coombs, all of Denver, Colo.; a brother-in-law, Hollis Mosher and his wife, Natalie, of Temple; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a son, Paul; and brothers, Richard and Alfred.
