The Sun Journal published a letter from Nathan Faucher on June 1 in which he takes Planned Parenthood to task. The difference between Planned Parenthood and Mr. Faucher is that Planned Parenthood knows what it is doing, while Mr. Faucher does not know what he is talking about.

Faucher makes two major errors concerning pregnancy prevention and Planned Parenthood. First, he assumes that Planned Parenthood does not teach abstinence. This is not true. Planned Parenthood teaches abstinence, but also understands that abstinence often fails. That is why Planned Parenthood also teaches how to effectively use condoms.

Faucher also maintains that Planned Parenthood teaches the use of contraceptives “to further their own business.” What “business” is he referring to? If it is the “business” of pregnancy prevention and abortion, then the logical inconsistency of his argument is laughable. Contraceptives tend to prevent pregnancy, which obviously lowers the need for abortions.

Planning a family means that the individuals concerned determine the timing and spacing of any children that they desire to have. Planned Parenthood provides the means for couples to do that while maintaining a sexual relationship.
