KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Pat Noonan scored and the New England Revolution took advantage of a Kansas City own goal to beat the Wizards 2-0 on Saturday night and remain the league’s only unbeaten team.
New England improved to 7-0-4 and remain atop the Eastern Conference with 25 points.
The own goal occurred in the eighth minute when New England midfielder Shalrie Joseph took the ball on the left side of the Wizards’ penalty area and sent a centering pass to the middle of the box. But the ball deflected off Wizards’ midfielder Sasha Victorine and past goalkeeper Bo Oshoniyi.
The Revolution padded the lead four minutes into the second half when Joseph shuffled a pass through the Wizards’ defense to an unmarked Noonan, who one-touched the ball past Oshoniyi into the right corner of the net.
Kansas City had 12 total shots to the Revolution’s five. New England goalie Matt Reis made four saves.
