Many pastors across the U.S. preached about Abraham as one reads about him in the book of Genesis, Chapter 12 and following. Briefly, God promises that Abraham will be a father of many nations and through his descendants, all the nations of the world would be blessed.

In preparation for a recent sermon, I came across the following quotation by Stephen Bauman.

“There are approximately 3 billion people the world over who trace their spiritual lineage back to Abraham. Jews, Christians and Muslims are all children of Abraham’ by their own reckoning. By default, this makes his story among the several most seminal stories of Western civilization.”

After reading this, I paused a few minutes and my mind began to think, “After Sept. 11 why couldn’t the governing bodies of each of these three religions sit down together and see if they couldn’t work out some way to peace as each of these religions speak about peace and not war; whether it be the Bible or the Quran.”

Many of you will take issue with me, but many times in life if we will sit down and talk through our differences we might reach a peaceful solution rather than affecting so many lives not only in the United States, but also in Iraq and other nations with this war.

Yes, why didn’t the United Nations step in and bring leaders of the nations of Iraq and the United States to the “peace table” and work through a peaceful solution.
