TURNER – The Planning Board gave conditional approval Wednesday night to a day-care facility to be constructed at 437 Turner Center Road, or Route 117.

Margo S. Smith indicated she hopes to have her center opened by the fall. The proposal states the center may accommodate, by lease, community activities such as the Boy and Girl Scouts, adult education, family gatherings and dance classes.

Plans call for a 3,400-square-foot building to accommodate up to 30 children and eight staff, or a gathering of up to 50 people.

Turner Code Enforcement Officer Roger Williams said the Planning Board’s approval is conditional on the applicant’s being granted a permit for construction under the Natural Resources Protection Act Tier 1, which controls wetlands. Williams said the plans must also be submitted to the state fire marshal.

Smith initially met with the board in early April to announce her plans. A sketch of the proposed project prepared by Engineering Ventures Inc. of Falmouth is available for viewing at the Town Office.
