EAST DIXFIELD – A vehicle belonging to SAD 9 was stolen from a school employee’s home on Route 2 sometime after midnight Monday morning, said Wilton Police Chief Wayne Gallant on Tuesday.
Gallant said he’d seen the dark blue Buick Century parked somewhere along his route to work Monday morning. But, when Officer Terry Warren told him of the theft, he wasn’t quite sure where he’d seen it, he said.
Gallant found the vehicle with municipal license plates parked on a side road in front of an excavation site near Naples Packing Center in Mexico on his way home Monday night after attending Wilton’s annual town meeting.
The vehicle didn’t appear to be damaged, nor did anything seem to have been taken. The keys were still in the car, he said.
Gallant said he notified Mexico police, Franklin and Oxford counties sheriff’s offices when he found the vehicle. It was then secured overnight in a nearby commercial garage.
On inspection of the site where the vehicle was recovered, Gallant said he found no footprints in the sand but law enforcement agencies will be collaborating on an investigation. There are no suspects at this time.
“Looks like someone needed to get from one place to another,” Gallant said.
