OTISFIELD – Duveen Ruth Bryant Dews, 75, died suddenly Tuesday, June 21, at her home in Otisfield.

She was born in Freedom, Nov. 12, 1929, the daughter of Harding and Emma Bryant.

She was married to Reginald Dews for 52 years.

She graduated from Morse High School in 1947, and received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Maine at Orono in 1951. She taught school in Dexter and Gray before teaching in MSAD No. 51 (Cumberland-North Yarmouth) for 20 years.

Duveen enjoyed life with her husband, family and many friends. Education and children were her top priorities. She loved the community of Cumberland, where she and Reggie raised their family and where she taught at Greely Junior High School.

She was a devoted wife and mother who always put her family first. She was kind and loyal, and tried to do what she thought was right. She was an avid gardener and she loved to read.

She was a member of the Pine Needles Quilters of Norway, Vi’s Quilters of Casco and the Casco Village Church.

She is survived by her five children, Elizabeth Dews, Charles Dews, Barbara Dews Rodriguez, Shelly Dews Chigier, and Edwin P. Dews, along with their spouses, Theresa Borden, Wendy Coughlan, Sandra Dews, Roy Rodriguez, Ben Chigier, and Amy Dews; 11 grandchildren; and her devoted dog, Cosmo.

Words cannot express how much we will miss her.
