Free noon concerts featuring Maine musicians will be presented in Lewiston-Auburn parks starting July 5, courtesy of L/A Arts.

Now in its fourth year, the Music in the Parks concert program runs from noon to about 1 p.m., specifically timed for a workday break.

“There’s so much enthusiasm for these concerts. People write and e-mail us throughout the year saying how much they appreciate the variety and the talent in the summer series,” said Cheri Donahue, L/A Arts marketing director.

“We are so grateful to the business sponsors, both of the series and of the individual shows. These businesses are the main source of funding for these free concerts,” she said.

The series will start Tuesday, July 5, at Festival Plaza on Main Street in downtown Auburn with the contemporary country sounds of Don Campbell. He’s accompanied by his wife, Tonya, on bass and by Andy Happel on fiddle.

The next concert will be Thursday, July 7, at the Courthouse Plaza on Lisbon Street in downtown Lewiston. Performing traditional folk music will be The Dave Rowe Trio.

A self-taught multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter, Campbell has traveled from his Scarborough hometown to his second home in Nashville, and many other places. Averaging more than 100 performances annually, he has built a fan base and mailing list of nearly 7,000, and has opened for country music legends such as Randy Travis, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Ricky Skaggs and Toby Keith.

He was named Country Artist of the Year by Jam Music Magazine in 2004.

The Dave Rowe Trio is known for performing foot-stomping traditional Celtic and Canadian Maritime favorities with enthusiasm and mastery.

Alongside Rowe on his familiar lead vocals, guitar, piano and tin whistle are bassist Kevin O’Reilly and fiddler/mandolin player Edward Howe. Solid, soaring harmonies and burning instrumentals are the trio’s trademark.
