AUGUSTA – Brittany Morin hasn’t had to look far to find motivation. When her father was paralyzed last year, the Winslow catcher found greater incentive.

“He’s always been my backbone,” said Morin. “He was always the one to push me. When I see him suffering, it just gives me my inspiration.”

Morin used that drive to help produce a Class B state softball title with the Black Raiders and finished her career on top, being named Miss Maine Softball at the Maine Softball Coaches Association’s Senior All-Star games at Cony High School on Thursday.

“It wraps it up with a bang,” said Morin, whose father, Dick Morin, was a standout baseball player at Winslow and was injured last year in a fall from a tree stand. “It’s awesome. It’s kind of shocking right now. There are a lot of players that are good out here.”

Jay’s Bree Loon was named the Western C Player of the Year.

“It means a lot to me because I do put a lot of work into it,” said Loon. “Getting this award shows that my hard work pays off.”

Loon had 246 strikeouts this season and finished with 769 in her career. She also had 11 shutouts and walked just three batters. She boasted a regular-season ERA of 0.18.

“I was surprised because there are a lot of great girls out there,” said Loon. “It’s definitely a good way to end it all.”

Brunswick pitcher Chelsea Blais was Eastern A’s top player while Western A’s honor went to Portland shortstop Ashley Anderson. Along with Morin in Class B, Greely pitcher Michelle Robb was the top Western player. Penquis pitcher Dani Graves was the Eastern C Player of the Year while in Class D, Richmond hurler Sarah Coonradt won in the West and Lee shortstop Shelby Pickering won in the East.
