AUBURN — Justin Ciszewski trotted home with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift New Auburn to a triumphant 5-4 victory over Smith-Tobey of Bath in Zone III Legion baseball action Tuesday.
New Auburn (6-1) entered the bottom of the seventh down 4-1 after Ciszewski launched a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Derrick Doucette and Tyler Baril each walked to open the seventh inning, followed by a fielder’s choice groundout by Brian Erickson.
Matt Nadeau knocked an RBI single to score Doucette to cut the deficit to 4-2. Ciszewski then walked to load the bases and Kyle Giguere hit a two-run double to knot the game at 4-4. Brady Blackman was then intentionally walked to reload the bases. Matt Meserve hit a hard ground ball to the shortstop was misplaced, allowing Ciszewski to reach home with the winning run.
Ciszewski pitched all seven innings for New Auburn to earn the win.
With the loss, Smith-Tobey falls to 6-3 on the season.
Andy Valley 6, Mechanic Falls 6
POLAND – Andy Valley and Mechanic Falls had their American Legion baseball game suspended after seven innings because of darkness. The 6-6 tie game will be completed later in the season.
Mechanic Falls had built a 6-2 lead in the third on two-run singles from Brent Cary and Tyler Merchant. Merchant later scored on an error, the third in the inning by Andy Valley.
After Brandon Elie scored on a wild pitch in the fifth to make it 6-3, Andy Valley tied in the top of the seventh with a three-run homer by Levi Armandi.
Gayton 9, Gray 2
GRAY — Nick Langlais pitched six strong innings to lead Gayton to a 9-2 win over Gray in an American Legion baseball matchup Tuesday.
Langlais scattered four hits over six innings and struck out six batters to earn the win, as Gayton improved its record to 3-4 on the season. Nate Gruz sparked the Gayton offense with a three-hit performance, including a run-scoring triple.
Dustin Cormier led the Gray (2-5) offense with two doubles. Starting pitcher Jared Dunn was shouldered with the loss for Gray.
Monmouth 11, Augusta 4
AUGUSTA — Justin Dunbow hammered out four hits and drove in five runs to lead Monmouth to an 11-4 victory over Augusta in an American Legion baseball game Tuesday.
Scott Ogden added a two-run triple to help secure the win for Monmouth (7-0), while Wally Rines and Mark Wade each contributed with three hits. Tavis Hasenfus and Sean Holbrook finished the game with two hits apiece for unbeaten Monmouth.
Ryan Cotnoir and Gunar Davis each doubled for Augusta .
