RUMFORD – Thora L. Child, R.N., 84, died Saturday, July 2, at the Rumford Community Home, Rumford. She recently resided at Kathy Hutchinson’s Boarding Home in Peru, and had formerly lived most of her life in the Dixfield area.

She was born in Rumford, on Dec. 3, 1920, the daughter of Walter and Grace (Lamb) Weld.

She graduated from Dixfield High School Class of 1939 and the Rumford Community Hospital School of Nursing Class of 1942.

Thora was a registered nurse and had been employed as director of nurses at the Dixfield Nursing Home for many years.

She was a member of the Dixfield Congregational Church.

She enjoyed traveling with her late husband and family, and loved spending time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was married in Pocomoke City, Md., on July 9, 1943, to the late Allan W. Child. He died in Lewiston on April 24, 1999.

Survivors include two sons, Craig Child and wife, Trina, of Houlton, Grayson Child and wife, Andrea, of Dixfield; five grandchildren, Jennifer Child of Dixfield, Michael Child of Saco, Patrick Child of South Portland, Kristen and Kevin Child of Orono; and three great-grandchildren, Casey, Caley, and Shaun Child of Dixfield.
