Derby race
PARIS – West Paris Downhill Derby Racing will take place on Sundays, July 10 and 24, on Kingsbury Street beside the town office. Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. with races to take place at 11.
The races are for children age 7 to 17, and all participants will be recognized. New drivers should call to reserve a spare car.
The derby snack shack will sell food and donations are being sought. They are also accepting old trophy collections for recycling.

AARP meeting
PARIS – The Oxford Hills Chapter of AARP will meet on Monday, July 11, at the First Congregational Church, East Main Street, South Paris. The luncheon will be at noon and reservations are required. The menu will be ham and cheese quiche, vegetable, dessert and fruit tray. The meeting will begin at 1 p.m. The guest speakers will be Amy MacMillan from SeniorsPlus, whose talk is titled “Gearing Up for the New Prescription Drug Benefit, Medicare Part D.” There will also be a speaker from Social Security who will discuss the extra help available to people with limited income. People age 50 and over are welcome.
Still spaces
NORWAY – There are still places available for artists at Norway’s 33rd annual Sidewalk Art Show, taking place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 9, on Main Street as part of the Norway Summer Festival.
Artists in all media are welcome to participate and to submit work for cash awards and purchase awards. Judges are David Little and Doug Howe of Portland. The entry fee, which reserves a 10-by-10 booth space, is $60.
The free festival offers music, dance, poetry and children’s activities.

Logging tour
BERLIN, N.H. – The Logging Camp and Brown Co. House Interpretive Center offers a self-guided tour on an eight-acre site of circa 1900 logging camp, with limited interactive elements and wildlife exhibit, and the historic Brown Company House “At the Heart of the Working Forest” and XAndroscoggin River exhibit.
The center is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Admission is $5 with children under 12 free with an adult. The Northern Forest Heritage Park is on the banks of the Androscoggin River, Route 16. Call 603-752-7202 for details.
Canadien Soiree
BERLIN, N.H. – The seventh annual Celebration of the Franco-American Culture – Canadien Soiree will be held Saturday, July 23. There will be traditional music, folk art and cuisine of the French Canadiens in the setting of a circa 1900 Logging Camp Interpretive Center on the banks of the Androscoggin River.
It will feature Smithsonian Reindeau Brothers and others at the traditional bean-hole bean dinner served from 4 to 6 p.m. Patti Berube and Anita Lavigne will complete the evening with a soiree from 6 to 8 p.m.
