BROCKTON, Mass. (AP) – A man released two years ago on a federal bank robbery conviction was ordered held Friday on $150,000 cash bail in another holdup, and also was being investigated in other recent southeastern Massachusetts bank heists.

Kevin C. Donovan, the 34-year-old son of Rockland Police Chief Kevin M. Donovan, was arraigned in Brockton District Court on an armed robbery charge in a June 30 holdup, as well as single counts of threat to commit a crime and larceny over $250.

Donovan was ordered to appear at an Aug. 3 probable cause hearing.

A manhunt for Donovan ended with his arrest at a Brockton apartment complex Thursday night.

The FBI, which is overseeing the investigation because it involves multiple bank robberies, considers Donovan a suspect in several recent robberies, FBI spokeswoman Nenette Day said. She declined to say how many cases Donovan is being investigated in, but added that multiple arrest warrants have been issued for Donovan by local authorities.

Bank robberies have been reported over the past two weeks in communities south of Boston including Attleboro, Raynham, Rockland, Brockton and Stoughton.

Donovan was released from prison in January 2003 after serving more than three years on federal bank robbery charges.

Donovan was also a vocalist with a rock band, called Gun Dog, that took promotional photos at the Rockland police station, with Donovan posing in handcuffs with uniformed Rockland officers in front of a town police cruiser. Those photos had been posted on the band’s Web site but were removed this week.

“The leader of the band asked if they could come in and do some publicity photos here as a promo for a CD they had coming out,” Rockland Deputy Police Chief John Llewellyn said. “The chief, trying to help out his son as any father would, said OK.”
