POLAND – Western Maine Conference sponsored a Citizenship Award Banquet on May 3 to honor students from each school in the conference. Every Western Maine Conference high school is asked to select two graduating seniors to be honored at the banquet. The seniors are selected for their overall contributions to their school in the areas of academics, athletics, leadership and extracurricular activities; and for their attitude and consideration of others.

The two graduates of Poland Regional High School chosen were Brendan Blake and Rebecca Lindquist.

Blake is the son of Robert and Linda Blake. Honors included National Honor Society, Saint Joseph’s College of Maine Book Award, National Merit Scholar and Salutatorian as well as 2004 National Catholic Forensic League Lincoln Douglas Debate qualifier, 2005 National Forensic League Policy Debate qualifier and 2004-2005 State Champion in Policy Debate.

Blake was named to the Western Maine Conference Second-Team Soccer All-Stars for the fall 2004 season. Activities were National Honor Society, soccer co-captain, track, math team, Poland Youth League soccer coaching and a counselor at Camp Timanous in Raymond.

Lindquist, daughter of Victor and Carol Lindquist, lives on a lake in Poland Spring. Her academic excellence and character were recognized by her induction into the National Honor Society last spring. She is a member of the varsity field hockey and softball teams.

Lindquist is also a veteran member of the steel band and an accomplished dancer. She especially enjoys camping, swimming, biking. boating, snowmobiling and reading. Next fall, she plans to attend the University of New England to study occupational therapy.
