RANGELEY – Highlight of the Rangeley Lakes Chamber of Commerce annual dinner held June 23 at the Thai Blossom Restaurant and Saddleback Ski Area was the presentation of the 2005 Community Service Award. Recipients were David “Joe” Haley and Scott Millbury of M & H Logging and Construction.
The two each owned their own logging equipment in the beginning. In 1981 they decided to merge into one company, and four years later bought another logging company. From then on, it has been rapid-fire growth into four companies based in Rangeley and serving the entire state.
Working with state environmental and transportation agencies, they have taken on riverbank stabilizations, highway projects in nine locations and municipal sewer treatment ponds.
By protecting natural resources and habitat, they have been the recipients of numerous environmental awards. In the logging world, they received the Northeast Logger of the Year Award.
Their companies are devoted to local people and civic organizations. Monetary and equipment contributions include assistance in constructing the Rangeley Area Guides and Sportsmen’s fishing pond and parking lot, local baseball diamonds, church projects, snowmobile trails, the Wellness and Rehabilitation Center and flooding out fish ways in South Bog Stream. They support the Rangeley Friends of the Arts and the Chamber of Commerce.
Companies include M & H Logging and Construction, Rangeley Sand and Gravel, Millbury-Haley Land Development and Oquossoc Shale and Gravel.
