GARDINER – Ben Wigant and Tom Grady combined for a shutout as Lewiston’s Elliot Little League All-Stars blanked Dirigo 2-0 in the District 5 Little League Major Division Tournament. Wigant struck out 9 in picking up the win.

Luke Cote drilled a triple to score Matt Poto to give Elliot a 1-0 lead in the third inning. The insurance run was scored in the fourth, Matt Bowen’s single plating Ben Chicoine who had singled.

Elliot’s defense was outstanding, especially outfielders Poto, Stephen Hinkley and Joe MacKinnon, the latter making a spectacular catch in the top of the sixth with 2 outs to preserve the win. Catcher Shawn Ricker picked off a Dirigo runner at third.
