LEWISTON – Mayor Lionel C. Guay Jr. was presented with a wall-size framed photo of No Name Pond by Elaine Hemenway of the No Name Pond Watershed Management Association at a recent meeting of the Lewiston City Council. The photo was presented in appreciation of the city’s assistance with implementation of the City’s Watershed Management Plan.

Guay voiced the council’s gratitude for the photo, and Phil Nadeau, assistant city administrator, praised the association’s commitment to enhancing both No Name Pond and its surroundings, along with the partnership it has developed with the city in that regard.

In addition, Jeanne Raymond, president of the Pond Association, addressed the mayor and council stating, “I am very pleased to be a part of this hardworking group that is determined to improve the quality of No Name Pond for the present and future generations. Thank you for providing us guidance to see our strategies moving forward.”

Raymond went on to explain that through the assistance of a Department of Environmental Protection 319 Clean Water Act two-year grant being managed by the Androscoggin Valley Soil and Water Conservation District, a steering committee is currently learning and working together to identify and address areas that need erosion control on roads, shorelines, and private property.

Raymond also presented Lewiston’s Land Use Inspector Eric Cousens, whom she noted has been particularly helpful with the association’s efforts, with a desk photo of No Name Pond and presented the mayor and city council with a box of “self-rising gratitude” cookies.
