Monmouth 1, Waterville 0
WALES – Mark Wade hit a seeing-eye single through the shortstop hole with two outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift Monmouth to a 1-0 victory over Waterville in a Zone II Legion baseball game Thursday.
With one out in the seventh, Justin Plourde walked and advanced to second on a single by Sean Holbrook. After the runners moved up on a passed ball, Wally Rines was intentionally walked to load the bases.
Tavis Hasenfus ripped a line drive up the middle that pitcher Eric Lopez could have turned into an inning-ending doubleplay, but he couldn’t hold onto it. But he recovered to force Plourde out at home. But Wade knocked the ball between the third baseman and shortstop for his fourth hit of the day for the game-winner.
Mike Eaton picked up the win in relief for Monmouth (14-1), who came in and escaped a bases-loaded jam in the fifth.
