Nathan Young Olson of East Poland, recently received the degree of Associate in Applied Science in Business Administration and Management at Central Maine Community College. Nathan is now attending Long Island University, a Division 1 School, where he has receive a baseball scholarship.

At Central Maine Community College Nathan was named 2004 United States Collegiate Athletic Association honorable mention All-American while playing shortstop, after bating .483 with 22 doubles, 11 home run’s 3 RBI over 31 contests. He was selected to the All Northern New England Small College Conference (NNESCC)team; named team MVP that season in which he served as Co-Captain; helped CMMC to a 20-8 mark that season; hit whopping .587 as a freshman with 18 doubles, 7 home runs and 37 RBS over 35 games.

At LIU Junior third baseman Nate Olson was selected to the first team All-Northeast Conference based on a vote by the league’s coaches Olson made an immediate impact at third base after transferring from Central Maine Community College. Hew was tied for fourth on the team with 16 RBI and third with six stolen bases over 28 contests. He closed the season on a tear, hitting .406 )13 for 231 with seven RBI over his last 10 games and notched a hit in eight of these contests.

Nate is currently playing in a wooden bat league in Athens, Ga. for the summer. He started off the season with a three run home run. He is a 2002 graduate of Poland Regional High School. Nathan is the son Jill Olson of Auburn and Gunnar Olson Sr. of Naples, Fla.

Clarkson Univ. DL

POTSDAM, N.Y. – The student whose name follows was named Presidential Scholars or named to the Dean’s List for the spring 2005 semester at Clarkson University. Presidential Scholars must achieve a minimum 3.80 grade-point average (GPA) and carry at least 14 credit hours. Dean’s List students must achieve a minimum 3.25 grade point average and also carry at least 14 credit house.

Renee S. Lajoie, dean’s list, a sophomore, majored in psychology. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Lajoie of Auburn.

Roanoke College

SALEM, Va. – The following student was among 375 seniors receiving degrees from Roanoke College at its 163rd commencement ceremony held May 7.

Alissa T. Neal, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Neal of Vienna, bachelor of science with a major in Health and Human Performance.

Ashley Rose Whalen of Lewiston graduated cum laude from the University of Maine Orono with a bachelor of science degree in Food Science and Human Nutrition. A Presidential Scholar, she was a member of Kappa Omicron Nu honor society, Phi Tau Sigma honor society, the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and a sister of Pi Beta Phi sorority. Whalen will attend graduate school at the University of Maine Orono to earn a Master’s Degree in Food Science and Human Nutrition and will complete a Dietetic Internship to become a Registered Dietitian. A 2001 graduate of Lewiston High School, she is the daughter of Jim and Diane Whalen and the granddaughter of Jeannette Blais.



Wesley Dionne graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Management Information Systems from the University of Maine in Orono on May 7. He has accepted a position with Liberty Mutual in Portsmouth, N.H. He graduated from Poland Regional High School in 2001.

Chelsea Dionne, a 2004 graduate of Poland Regional High School, has been named to the dean’s list at the University of Hartford for academic excellence for the spring term. She is a radiographic technology major in the Health Sciences Department.

Wesley and Chelsea are the children of Roxanne and Jil Dionne of Poland and the grandchildren of Chris and Pauline Simones of Auburn and the late Cecile Dionne.



Sarah Potvin, daughter of Artie and Tina Potvin of Auburn, has been named to the dean’s list at the University of Maine at Orono. She attained a grade point average of 3.86 for the spring semester. A 2003 graduate of Edward Little High School. Potvin is a double major in Spanish and Sociology.



Stephanie Peaslee of Auburn has been named to the dean’s list with a 3.25 grade point average for her spring semester at the University of Maine at Augusta. Peaslee is in the Mental Health and Human Services Bachelors Degree Program and attends full-time studies at the UMA Lewiston-Auburn Campus. She was a recent recipient of the Outstanding Cornerstone Student Award at UMA. Currently, Peaslee is an active volunteer with the Women, Work and Community Organization located at Lewiston-Auburn College. As part of her college experience at UMA, Peaslee plans to pursue an internship with Women, Work, and Community this fall. Peaslee is the wife of Greg Peaslee of Auburn and mother of one son, Christian.



Local student named to dean’s list at Roanoke College: Stephanie Elizabeth Metarelis of Bowdoinham was named to the dean’s list of distinguished students for the 2005 spring term at Roanoke College. In order to be named to the Dean’s List, a student must be enrolled in at least four units during the term and earn a grade point average of at least 3.50, with no grade lower than a “C.”



Tristy (Riggs) Wolfe received her Masters Degree in Holistic Health Sciences with a 4.0 on May 20 from Georgian Court University in Lakewood, N.J. Tristy is the head athletic trainer at GCU. She graduated from Plymouth State College in 2000 with a major in PE with options in Athletic Training, Fitness and Rehab, and a minor in Health. She and her husband, Waylon, with their three month old daughter, Nya, live in Bayville, N.J. Tristy is the daughter of Butch and Maureen Riggs of Wilton. She is a 1996 graduate of Mt. Blue High School.

Shawn O’Connor, son of Brad and Dianne O’Connor of Minot recently graduated with a bachelor of fine arts degree from University of Southern Maine with honors. His art concentration is in ceramics, where he plans to continue his education to graduate school. He has artwork displayed at Elizabeth and Maine Gallery in Gorham. O’Connor is a full time manager at Bistro Pizza Hut in Auburn.



Renee Bissonnette, daughter of Maurice and Barbara Bissonnette of Lewiston, has been named to the dean’s list for the 2005 spring semester at the University of New England. A 2004 graduate of Lewiston High School, Bissonnette is a major in business administration. She is also actively involved at the University in Rotaract, the College Community Mentoring Program and the varsity swim team. Dean’s list students have attained a grade point average of 3.30 or better out of a possible 4.0 at the end of the semester.



The following local students have been named to the President’s List or Dean’s List at Southern New Hampshire University for the spring 2005 semester.

Kyle R. Pilote of 502 Johnson Hill Road, Poland, has been named to the Dean’s List for the spring Quarter at Rochester, N.Y. Institute of Technology. A first-year student in RIT’s College of Applied Science and Technology, Kyle is studying Mechanical Engineering Technologies. Kyle is the son of Marian and Eugene Pilote of Poland and is a 2004 graduate of Poland Regional High School.



Mary Donahue Roach graduated May 14 from Simmons College, Boston with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biopsychology. She achieved Dean’s List status for the spring 2005 semester with a 4.0 grade point average. Mary is a 2001 graduate of Dirigo High School, Dixfield.

Edward Joseph Roach III graduated May 14 from the University of Maine at Augusta with a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Administration. He is a 1995 graduate of Dirigo High School and a 1097 graduate of Southern Maine Community College.

Mary and Joe are the children of Don Roach and Carol Webb of Peru and Augusta, and Jim and Gail Belyea of Mexico.

Their grandparents are Edward and Barbara Roach of Dixfield and Howard and Gloria Donahue of Peru.



Laudine Marie Vallarta of Auburn received the Bachelor of Arts degree from Drew University on May 21, at the University’s 137th commencement.

Libby Anne Murphy, daughter of Kevin and Mona Murphy of Auburn, was named to the fall 2004 and spring 2005 dean’s list at the University of Maine at Orono. She was recently accepted in the University’s School of Nursing and will begin her junior year at the University this fall. Libby was a 2003 graduate of Edward Little High School.



Karyn A. Labbe and Karla A. Labbe daughters of Donna and Dan Labbe of Jay and members of the Jay High School class of 2001 graduated from college on May 21 and May 23.

Karyn graduated from the University of New Hampshire and was awarded a bachelor of science degree majoring in Animal Science:Preveterinary Medicine. She is a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. Karyn will be enrolled in the fall at Michigan State University in the College of Veterinary Medicine.

Karla graduated from Boston College earning a bachelor of science degree in nursing from the William F. Connell School of Nursing. She is a member of the Theta Tau Honor Society of Nursing. Karla has accepted a position at Massachusetts General Hospital in the pediatrics unit. She will also continue her studies in the graduate nursing program at Boston College in the fall.



Kendra K. Arsenault daughter of Andy and Tracy Arsenault of Peru received her BS in biology from USM this May. She immediately went to work for Bio-Processing Inc. Kendra plans to take advantage of the company’s education plan in the near future and start working on her Master’s degree.



Jamie Turcotte has been named to the dean’s list at Merrimack College in North Andover, Mass., for the spring semester with a GPA of 3.76. Jamie will be a junior this fall pursuing a major in psychology and a minor in philosophy. She is a 2003 graduate of Poland Regional High School and is the daughter of Marc and Diane Turcotte of Poland.
