Derek Bo Dube, a Maine desperado suspect who’d been described by police as armed, dangerous and possibly suicidal, is being held without bail after being arrested Saturday with barely a whimper.

New Hampshire State Police said Dube, 26, and his female sidekick, Jessica Brewer, 19, “were taken into custody without incident.”

Each is being held at the Rockingham County Correction Facility in Brentwood, N.H., on fugitive from justice warrants. Jail officials there said they hadn’t been told of an extradition hearing as of Sunday evening.

Dube, whose last known address was listed as his mother’s home in Auburn, was the target of a massive manhunt in central and southern Maine last week.

Lewiston police had joined in the search for Dube because of his local connections, said Lt. Mike McGonagle. Sunday evening, McGonagle said Dube doesn’t face charges in Lewiston, but noted Dube’s probation officer, Norm Guay, intends to have Dube held on a probation violation charge in addition to the pending Lincoln County charges.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department listed Dube as the primary suspect in a series of home invasions and burglaries in the Boothbay Harbor area. He was also wanted in connection with two car thefts. He allegedly outran police, crashing one stolen vehicle in Wiscassett in the process, then got away by fleeing into woods on foot last Tuesday and Wednesday.

On Saturday, New Hampshire State Police, joined by municipal police from Seabrook and Hampton Falls, N.H., set up surveillance at the Wakeda Campground in Hampton Falls after they were tipped by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department that Dube might be there.

Police staked out the campground and found Dube and Brewer staying at site 40. Police waited until Dube was busy taking down a tent, then surrounded him and put him under arrest shortly after 2 p.m. Saturday.

Dube’s criminal record includes previous arrests in 1998 for elevated aggravated assault, and in 1999 he was charged with assault, burglary, theft, and criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon.

A car that police said Dube stole from Wiscassett was found in Lewiston on Thursday being driven by a 26-year-old woman. Dube wasn’t with her. She’s been charged with receiving stolen property.

McGonagle praised the efforts of New Hampshire police, as well as those of police back in Maine.

“This worked out really good,” he said, noting that no one was injured and the suspect was captured and awaits extradition.

Police earlier had feared Dube, who reportedly said he wouldn’t be taken alive, would provoke a confrontation that could end violently.
