FARMINGTON – Residents wanting to have a say in the future of the former dowel mill site on Fairbanks Road will want to attend a public hearing tonight.
The hearing will take place during a selectmen’s meeting that will follow a special town meeting starting at 7 p.m. at the Community Center.
Developers Buzz Davis and Bill Marceau at last week’s selectmen’s meeting presented a conceptual plan for the 40-acre parcel they call Mill Pond Business Park. They hope to construct three facilities there – a 12,800-square-foot building for a restaurant or two retail businesses, an assisted living facility and offices. An access road into the site would encircle a pond.
Davis and Marceau have asked the town to apply for a Community Development Block Grant, 20 percent of which would need to be matched. The developers said they will provide all matching funds. Selectmen will vote on their request after the public hearing, although they expressed their approval at their meeting last week.
At the special town meeting, voters will also be asked to approve borrowing $420,000 and accept $230,000 in federal grant money to fund two improvement projects – the sewer reconstruction project to increase capacity, and relocation of the sewer outfall to meet state code on the Sandy River.
Townspeople will also vote on the discontinuance of 330 feet at the end of Smiley Road and a slight change to the roller-skating, skateboarding and scooter-riding ordinance.
