RANGELEY – Ruey Baldwin, author of “There Was a Land,” and Eleanor Flint Currier, former residents of the drowned village of Flagstaff, will give a lecture at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 1, at the Wilhelm Reich Museum’s Conference Center, Dodge Pond Road.
They will tell the story of Flagstaff, a village that was drowned in 1950 by Central Maine Power Co. when it erected a dam at Long Falls on the Dead River in order to create a hydropower reservoir.
Baldwin interviewed many former residents of the village and has compiled short stories about life in Flagstaff. “There Was a Land” will be available for purchase and she will sign a copies.
Admission is $10 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under. Refreshments will be served. Tickets are available at the museum office and bookstore and the Rangeley Chamber of Commerce. For additional information, call 864-3443 or e-mail [email protected].
