Locke Mills sweeps
BETHEL – Carl Olson laced a Luke Potter pitch into right field and past the Gayton outfielder, allowing Will Carver to score all-the-way from first base in the bottom of the eighth inning, to give Locke Mills an 11-10 win and a sweep of a Legion doubleheader on Sunday afternoon. Locke Mills also beat Gayton 5-4 in the first game.
Potter, who took the loss, had earlier been the catalyst for a late rally for Gayton. Down 8-5 in the top of the sixth inning with the bases loaded, Potter took a Locke Mills pitch out of the park to cap a five-run inning and put Gayton ahead in the game. Locke Mills went ahead in the bottom of the sixth, only to see Gayton scrape out another run on the top of the seventh, again tying the game. Gayton held off Locke Mills in the bottom of the seventh to force the extra frame.
Marcus Palmer got the win on the hill for Lock Mills in each game, while Luke Potter took the loss twice.
Will Carver had a total of five hits on the day (3,2), while Shawn Marr three hits in Game 2 for Locke Mills. Zach Timmermeyer had five hits on the day (2,3) for Gayton, and teammates Luke Potter and Nate Gruz had four each.
