LEWISTON – Ethelyn B. Tripp, 85, a resident of Plains Road, Leeds, died Monday, July 18, at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, where she had been a patient since Tuesday, July 12.
She was born May 3, 1920, in Auburn, the daughter of Merton H. and Claribel (Thurlow) Burnham. She went to school in Leeds and also attended Monmouth Academy.
On Dec. 17, 1937, she married Donald E. Tripp in Monmouth, and he passed away Jan. 30, 1996.
She was a housewife and also worked as an apple picker, grader and checker for Highmoor Farms in Monmouth, and also as a cook’s helper at Highmoor Farms.
She enjoyed crocheting and making latch hook rugs, and collecting salt and pepper shakers, and had a very large display of them.
She was a member of the Androscoggin Grange No. 8, the Androscoggin Pomona Grange No. 1, Leeds PTA, Leeds Community Church, International Sunshine Society and the Tri-Corner Athletic Club.
She is survived by three daughters, Kathleen Thayer of Winterport, Marilyn Tripp of Leeds, and Noreen Holt and her husband, Erland, also of Leeds; two stepgrandchildren; and five great-stepgrandchildren; a sister, Phyllis Buzzell of Leeds; and a sister-in-law, Aldine Meserve of Raymond.
She was predeceased by her husband; a son-in-law, Donald Thayer; and two brothers-in-law, Reginald Tripp and Harold Buzzell.
