BRIDGTON – Earle G. Shettleworth Jr., director of the Maine Historic Preservation Commission, is slated to give a talk on a Portland architect, Frederick A. Tompson (1857 -1906) at 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5.

Shettleworth’s talk will kick off Bridgton’s 2005 House Tour, which will begin on Saturday, Aug. 6. Walker Hall, tour headquarters, will also be the venue for the lecture on Tompson. The regal Queen Ann structure, built in 1892, was designed by Tompson.

Walker Hall is located on Highland Ridge. The road to Walker Hall runs by Highland Lake, off Route 302.

Shettleworth is well versed in all aspects of John Calvin Stephens, perhaps Portland’s most illustrious architect. Two years ago, during his last visit, Shettleworth gave Stephens a local twist by including several of his Lakes Region projects.

Tickets will be on sale for a nominal sum, and seating is limited. All proceeds will be split between the Bridgton Historical Society and the Bridgton Public Library to help advance the missions of the organizations.

Following the presentation, there will be libations and light refreshments served on the lawn outside Walker Hall. Shettleworth will be available to answer questions.
