FARMINGTON – Rose Marie Shink, 100, formerly of Pineau Street, Jay, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, July 20, at Franklin Memorial Hospital, where she had been a patient for 14 days.

She had resided for the last four years at Victorian Villa Nursing Home in Canton.

She was born in St. Methode, Quebec, on Feb, 9, 1905, the daughter of Gedeon and Anaisse Tardif Perreault. She attended local schools and immigrated to Lewiston in the 1920s to work in the cotton mills.

She married Francois Shink on Oct. 24, 1924, in St. Methode, Quebec. They moved to Lewiston and then to Jay in 1927.

She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was an excellent hostess and cook. She enjoyed braiding rugs, playing cards, shopping, and trips to Canada for family events. She also enjoyed knitting slippers, heavy socks and hats, and sewed many pairs of flannel pajamas as special Christmas gifts for her many grandchildren.

Survivors include her three sons and their wives, Robert and Winnie Shink, Bernard and Gladys Shink, and Marcel (Mike) and Maurie Shink, all of Jay; 11 grandchildren, Donald Shink and his wife, Sarah, of Canton, Ronald Shink and his wife, Kathy, of Yarmouth, Marc Shink of Jay, Linda Desjardins of Jay, Tracey Doiron of Jay, Derek Shink and his companion, Claire Despres, of Jay, Michael Shink and his wife, Sue, of Englewood, Fla., Steve Shink of Cape Neddick, Brian Shink and his wife, Marsha, of Livermore, Scott Shink and his wife, Lori, of Jay, and Jim Shink and his wife, Colleen, of Jay; 22 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Germaine Perreault of Ontario, Canada, and Marie Blanche Perreault of St. Methode, Quebec; and many nieces and nephews throughout the United States and Canada.

She was predeceased by her parents, and all of her 18 brothers and sisters. She was also predeceased by two infant daughters; her husband, who passed away in 1992; and a grandson in 1980.
