WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) – Two-time U.S. Open winner Andre Agassi is among five past champions on the tournament entry list released Thursday.

The 35-year-old Agassi hasn’t played since losing in the first round of the French Open in May. Bothered by a lower back injury, the owner of eight Grand Slam titles pulled out of this week’s hard-court tournament in Indianapolis and hopes to return to action next week at Los Angeles.

Defending champion Roger Federer, Andy Roddick, Lleyton Hewitt and Marat Safin are the other U.S. Open winners in the field for the year’s last major, which starts Aug. 29. They are all ranked in the top five; Agassi is No. 6.

The top 100 men in the current ATP Tour rankings were on the official entry list, along with four men who have protected rankings. Sixteen players will be added to the field in qualifying, and eight will receive wild cards. In all, 12 major champions were entered Thursday. Seedings will be based on the Aug. 22 rankings, and the draw will be Aug. 24.
