PORTLAND – Sixteen-year-old Katelyn Smith of Enfield captured the title of Miss Maine’s Outstanding Teen during the state’s pageant at the Eastland Hotel in Portland, June 11 and 12. This is a newly formed scholarship program held for girls between 13 and 17 and an affiliate of the Miss Maine Scholarship Pageant and Miss America Organization.

Other winners were: first runner-up Meghan Rhoades of Standish; second runner-up Billie-Rae Markie of Mattawamkeag; third runner-up Bridget Duval of Minot; and fourth runner-up Lindsay Le of Auburn.

Fourteen young women from throughout the state took part in this event. Judging was based on talent, interview, gown presentation, casual wear and on-stage question. Each contestant was also encouraged to perform community service and develop a platform that they will promote in their community and state.

Scholarship awards and prizes included the following: an all-expense trip to the national pageant, Miss America’s Outstanding Teen, in Orlando, Fla., in August; $2,000 Series EE Savings Bond, $100 Series EE Savings Bond and trophy for talent; $100 Series EE Savings Bond and trophy for photogenic; Miss Maine’s Outstanding Teen 2005 trophy; $500 gift certificate for wardrobe at the Crowning Touch.
