Bluegrass band returns to Poland Spring series

POLAND – The Poland Spring Preservation Society will welcome The Grassholes back to its summer concert series Monday, July 25.

The bluegrass band is made up of Gail Landry on the stand-up bass; Merrill Marsh, rhythm guitar; Rob Neilson, mandolin;Sam Pfeifle, lead guitar; Field Rider, banjo; and Emily Wiederkehr, fiddle.

All play around one microphone in traditional bluegrass fashion with vocals from all parties. They’ve been recalling the sound of Appalachia together since their formation in 2000.

After a one-year monthly residency at Silly’s in Portland, the Grassholes have moved on to play the St. Lawrence Arts and Cultural Center, the Center for Cultural Exchange, Local 188, Bull Feeney’s and the WIB Bluegrass Festival.

The Grassholes played at the PSPS’s Summer Concert Series two years ago.

All concerts are public and held at the All Souls Chapel in Poland Spring. Show time is 7 p.m. Admission is $5; all proceeds support the society’s work.
