LEWISTON – Donald B. Murphy, 89, of Montello Street, Lewiston, died Thursday, July 21, at Central Maine Medical Center.

He was born in Rochester, N.Y., on Sept. 30, 1915, a son of Frank and Anna Doyle Murphy. He attended local schools and graduated from Ben Franklin High School in Rochester, N.Y.

He worked at Eastman Kodak Co., prior to serving in the U.S. Army during World War II in the military police stationed in Italy. After the war, he joined the Rochester, N.Y., fire department, retiring in 1958 as a lieutenant after 29 years of service.

He was a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus, a member of the BO Elks and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church in Lewiston and Holy Cross Church in St. Petersburg, Fla.

He was married to the former Emma Blumenstock and Rita Kalb, both of whom predeceased him.

He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Marion Sedgeley Murphy; stepchildren, Marlene Miller and husband, Fred, of Dayton, Ohio, Stephen Sedgeley and wife, Celine, of Scarborough, and Carlton Sedgeley and wife, Lucille, of New York City; seven step-grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret Pope of Lakeland, Fla., and MaryAnn and husband, Henry Kwiatkowski, of Brockport, N.Y.; and nieces, Anne Murphy of Tarpon Springs, Fla., Mary Scherberger of Rochester, N.Y., and Pat Murphy of Dunedin, Fla.

He was also predeceased by two brothers, Jack and Francis; a sister, Irene Costigan; nephew, Donald Murphy; and niece, Barbara Merlau.
