PORTLAND – Matthew M. Goudreau, 45, of 206 Lincoln Ave., Rumford, died at Maine Medical Center on Thursday morning, July 21, with his family by his side.

He was born in Rumford, on Aug. 16, 1959, the son of Maurice and Constance (Pelletier) Goudreau. He was a graduate of Mountain Valley High School in Rumford, Class of 1977, and a graduate of the University of Southern Maine, where he obtained his degree in business management. He also completed three years towards a degree in mechanical engineering at Worcester Polytech and the University of Maine.

He was very fond of animals and loved to fish, garden and cook. He was also an avid woodworker who designed many beautiful pieces of furniture, including whirligigs and birdhouses, which are treasured by those who received them as gifts. He was admired for his ingenuity and design skills. He always had a desire to find solutions to design problems and loved to work in metal.

He was a kind and generous person, who loved to make gifts for family and loved ones. He will deeply missed by all.

He is survived by his mother, Constance; sister, Maureen of Rumford; and a brother, George of Alexandria, Va.

He was predeceased by his father, Maurice, who died in 2003.
