Bree Loon wanted to finish her high school career on a strong note. Though Jay fell shy of a regional or state title, the Tigers’ ace earned her share of accolades.
“It’s tough to lose that last one, but we won the MVCs,” Loon said of her team’s Western C semfinal loss to Telstar. “I definitely achieved what I wanted to this year. Even though we didn’t make it to states. I still achieved above what I wanted to.”
Loon struck out 246 batters her final season and finished with 769 in her career. She had 11 shutouts this season and just three walks while compiling a 0.18 earned run average. She pitched the Tigers to the top seed in Western C and a 15-1 regular season mark. She was named the Western Class C Player of the Year.
“I accomplished a lot more than I thought,” said Loon. “The first year I came in and had 128 strikeouts. I was like, Wow, that’s amazing. I’m never going to beat that again.’ Then I did end up progressing every year. I worked hard all winter, and I worked a lot this year, lifting weights and all. That really helped me a lot. I definitely exceeded what I thought I would do.”
