I think it is important for citizens to make their voices heard and hold their political representatives accountable for the decisions they make. That is why the current debate on Social Security reform, specifically, voluntary personal retirement accounts, has been so troubling to me.

There are two problems. One is that there is too much misinformation being spread by opponents of reform. Some organizations are using scare tactics and misinforming retirees and senior citizens with the objective of preventing any reform. In reality, those accounts would not affect current benefit recipients.

The second problem is that many of our members of Congress will not stand up for what their constituents support. I urge my representatives and senators in Congress to support Social Security reform that includes voluntary personal retirement accounts. The proposed changes are vital to the financial security of young American workers.
