LEWISTON – The Dominican Tertiaries of the new Bl Margaret of Castello Pro-Chapter will hold a retreat day on the topic of “Writing Psalms as a Means of Personal Prayer” from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, at the St. Martin de Porres Residence at 23 Bartlett St. It is not handicapped accessible.
The day will focus on the construction of the psalms and some background information in order to develop tools for writing one’s own psalms to God.
Two talks will be given on history and construction, then meditation and time will be used to begin the process of writing psalms. Also included will be a time for midday prayer from the Liturgy of the Hours, so that participants may gain a community experience of praying the psalms as is done by tertiaries, friars and sisters of all of the Catholic religious orders.
Toward the end of the day, there will be an opportunity for a community sharing of the psalms that were written or to hear the results of the day of study and prayer from other participants.
This is the first retreat day offered by the chapter, and it will be led by Denise Mailhot, OP, who is the moderator of the chapter and has been a professed member of the order since 1998.
Most of the members of the chapter will also participate and serve as support staff for the day.
The retreat is open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis. Limited space is available.
Cost is $15, and a light lunch will be served by the chapter.
Registration deadline is Monday, Aug. 8, and brochures with registration forms will be available at the doors of all Catholic churches in the area or can be obtained by calling Julie at 364-7094.
