PERU – About 10 people attended a Planning Board public hearing Tuesday night on a proposed 10-lot subdivision off Hammond Hill Road in Peru.

Applicant Scott Norris said he intends to create nine lots, which would be intended for single-family homes or duplexes.

Covenants for the Mountain View Estates property, he said, would not allow trailers, mobile homes or businesses to be placed on the lots. Farm animals are also not to be allowed on the property.

He said he intends to improve a section of Hammond Hill Road, part of which has been discontinued for the past 50 years, Planning Board Chairman Bill Hine said.

Additionally, Norris intends to improve a road into the subdivision that ends on Lot No. 3 in a cul-de-sac.

Abutters, planners and others asked questions about road specifications and lot sizes, which are to average 4.5 acres, Norris said.

He said he intends to leave one lot measuring 23.6 acres open as land that cannot be developed.

“We’re not trying to bring in cheap houses,” Norris said. “It’s certainly not going to hurt the town to have the extra tax dollars.”

Hine said planners are expected to take action on the subdivision application in mid-August.
