LISBON FALLS – The University of Maine Cooperative Extension in Androscoggin and Sagadahoc counties will offer the volunteer education program, “Habitat Stewards,” on alternate Saturdays, from Sept. 10 to Nov. 19, at the Extension office. The program is being held in cooperation with the National Wildlife Federation.

Habitat stewards learn to enhance habitat for wildlife in backyards, schools and other places in the communities. In return for 30 hours of training, they volunteer 50 hours of mentoring people in their communities.

UMCE faculty and other experts will provide training on topics such as wildlife habitat, management principles and designing the home landscape as wildlife habitat. The program will provide the knowledge and skills to support volunteer activities with homeowners, businesspeople, schools and others wishing to enhance habitat for wildlife and people.
