FARMINGTON – A cadre of law enforcement officers has eradicated hundreds of marijuana plants in Franklin County in the last three days.

The street value of the 426 plants seized on Tuesday and Wednesday, most of them about 4 or 5 feet tall, would have been about $1 million at maturity, Franklin County Sheriff’s Lt. Niles Yeaton said Thursday.

Plants are worth $2,000 to $3,000 each at maturity, he said.

The cadre included Maine drug enforcement agents, Jay police, sheriff’s deputies, Border Patrol agents. They were assisted by a National Guard helicopter.

On Thursday, a truck went through Farmington with a load of marijuana plants that were pulled up in New Sharon. They were headed to the sheriff’s office in Farmington.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, plants were eradicated from near Cupsuptic Lake in Oxford County near the Rangeley area, and Wyman Township, Lang Township, Carrabassett Valley, Jay, Temple and Weld, all in Franklin County.

About 135 marijuana plants were uprooted in Jay and six were pulled up in Carrabassett Valley, Yeaton said.
