ROXBURY – Selectmen have set a special town meeting for Sept. 1 to elect a selectman to complete the term of Tim Gallant.
The winner of the election will complete the term ending at the annual town meeting in March 2006.
Gallant, director of transportation, and buildings and grounds at SAD 43, resigned in June for family reasons. He said Friday afternoon that he plans to move to Mexico or Rumford as soon as his house sells. He said he thought it was best to resign his board position prior to moving. Once relocated, he said he hopes to become involved in municipal affairs again.
Those wanting to run for the position may pick up nomination papers at the Roxbury Town Office. The papers with the signatures of at least 25 registered voters must be returned no later than noon on Aug. 17.
Gallant was elected in March 2003.
The other selectmen are Douten “Dan” Thomas and Alan Hodgkins.
