RUMFORD – Residents will have a chance Tuesday to give their ideas on how to improve the appearance and economy of the Congress and Waldo street areas.

A public forum has been set by the Downtown Revitalization Committee for 6 p.m. in the auditorium of the Municipal Building.

Leading the discussion will be representatives from Brian Kent Associates, a consulting firm from Gardiner hired by the town to develop a downtown revitalization plan.

The committee has tossed around several ideas in the three months since its formation, including rerouting a section of Route 2, changing the traffic pattern along Congress Street, and improving several intersections. Committee members have also talked with various groups and organizations interested in helping to beautify the area.

Town Manager Steve Eldridge has said that once a revitalization plan is in place, he’ll begin applying for federal and state grants to help fund the plans.

Kent Associates will take the various ideas and incorporate them into a plan.
