ANDOVER – Selectmen Gerald Savitz has resigned from his position effective Aug. 2.
He could not be reached for comment.
Selectman Gertrude Akers said Monday that Savitz resigned for personal and medical reasons.
“He’s done a super job,” Akers said.
Savitz was elected in March 2004 and has served of chairman for the past few months.
Nomination papers will be available at the Andover Town Office on Aug. 11 for those wishing to run for the rest of the term that expired in March 2007. The signatures of at least 25 registered voters must be gathered on the nomination papers. Papers must be returned to the town office by Sept. 15.
A new selectman will be elected Nov. 8.
Akers has served for nearly six years and David Percival for several months.
