BERLIN, N.H. – The Berlin City Bank Scholarships for Excellence were awarded during June graduation ceremonies to seniors from five of the North Country’s high schools: Berlin, Gorham, Groveton, Conway and Littleton. The scholarships represent one of the bank’s major contributions to the communities in its market areas.
Christopher Paul Lapointe was awarded the scholarship at Berlin High School. He will attend Colby College in Waterville, Maine, and has selected biochemistry as his major field of study. He graduated as valedictorian of his class, with high honors.
Lapointe was a member of the National Honor Society, participated in the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine and attended Boys State. He was the recipient of the Saint Michael’s Book Award and the Richard Wagner Sports Award. He was a volunteer worker at Androscoggin Valley Hospital and is the son of Rhonda and Don Lapointe.
Jaime Favreau aspires to become an operating room nurse in a large hospital. She was the Gorham High School winner and has elected to receive her training at the University of New Hampshire. Favreau has been a member of the National Honor Society and has been active in school activities and sports, playing junior and varsity field hockey.
She served as a class officer for each of the four years and was a member of the Student Council. She took part in the Adopt-a-Highway program and was a volunteer at church, a nursing home and nursery school. She was given the DAR Good Citizen Award and was recognized as an outstanding achiever in several academic subjects. She is the daughter of Suzanne and Leon Favreau of Shelburne.
Brianna Kondrat was the recipient at Kennett High School in Conway. She will attend Colby College also and will study English, art and languages, with a career objective of becoming an author and illustrator. Academic achievements include being selected for the high honor roll. She is listed in “Who’s Who Among American High School Students” and received the University of Rochester Humanities and Social Sciences Award and the Holy Cross Book Award.
Kondrat took part in the the 2004 All-State Art Festival and the N.H. Scholastic Art Show. She received several awards in track and field and basketball. She has participated in several community service functions and is the daughter of Shauna and Peter Kondrat of Eaton.
Wendy Amy Tewksbury, daughter of Howard and Debbie Tewksbury, was the Littleton High School recipient. She will attend Keene State College and is considering preparing for a career as a journalist or interior designer. She received highest honors and the President’s Award for having performed 500 hours of community service. A Girl Scout for many years, she received that organization’s Silver Award.
Tewksbury has been active in SADD for several years and has served as its vice president. She played soccer and received the Coach’s Award in that sport.
Michael Brassard, valedictorian of the senior class at Groveton High School, was the winner at that school. He will study engineering at the University of New Hampshire. Brassard participated in soccer, basketball and baseball, was a member of the Student Council and worked as a peer tutor. He is the son of Angela and Armand Brassard of Stark.
