LIVERMORE FALLS – Two 15-year-old boys from Wilton and Jay face charges from two police departments after a Livermore Falls police officer spotted a suspicious vehicle Sunday, police said Tuesday.

Both boys were discovered in a stolen car by Livermore Falls officer Steve Gould at about 12:30 a.m. Sunday and taken into custody, Livermore Falls Police Chief Ernest Steward Jr. said Tuesday.

Gould charged the Wilton teen, who was driving with a driver’s learning permit, with possession of stolen property and operating beyond restrictions of a permit, Steward said Tuesday.

A Jay teenager, a passenger in the car, was also charged by Gould with possession of stolen property, Steward said.

Jay police special investigator Roderick Small, who is also investigating the case, charged the Wilton teenager Tuesday with unauthorized use of property, Small said Tuesday.

The case remains under investigation, with more charges possibly pending, Small said.

Gould took notice of the car because the 1994 Geo Metro’s lights were dim and it emitted a lot of exhaust, Steward. said.

After Gould interviewed the teens, Steward said, he discovered the car was stolen from behind SIB Enterprises on Route 17 in Jay, the former Bass shoe warehouse, Steward said.

The owner, a Jay resident, didn’t realize that the car, which is valued at between $1,000 and $1,500, was missing, he said.

Both teenagers, taken into custody by Livermore Falls police Sunday, were turned over to their parents, Steward said.
